YMBA is a non profitable, National Buddhist Association recognized by HMG Government established on 11th july, 1970 (2027 BS shrawan 17) (2514 Buddha Era) by a group of enthusiastic educated young men of Patan (Lalitpur) with the objectives to spread the teachings of Buddha, to preserve Buddhist culture, to establish peace and harmony in Nepalese Society and to enhance Buddha Dharma as a propagated by Lord Shakyamuni Gautam, the Buddha who was born in Lumbini, about 2500 years ago.

The Association has been the regional centre of W.F.B.Y. (World Fellowship of Buddhist Youth) since 1978. Besides, it is also affiliated to Dharmodaya Sabha, Nepal. W.F.B.Y. headquarter which has more than 26 regional centre in different countries all over the world, is situated in Bangkok, Thailand.

Y.M.B.A. Nepal has friendly relationship with more than 75 Buddhist associations all over the world.

The associations has its own monastery (Vihara) and a plot of Land donated on 15, March 1979 by devoted Buddhist family of Mr. Pancha Raj Shakya along with his five brothers. The Vihara is famous by the name of the Lok Kriti Mahavihar (Kinu Bahi) which is located in Iti tole, ward no. 19, Lalitpur.

It has been spreading the Buddha Dharma since its initiation through its seven different branches open at Dharan, Trisuli, hetauda, Dhading, Tansen, Banepa and Dhadhing.

With a view to spread the teachings of Buddha and to unite Buddhist all over the world, it has organized, with the joint endeavor of Dharmodaya Shabha, the 15th W.F.B. and 6th W.F.B.Y. World Buddhist Conference from 27th Nov to 2nd Dec 1986. This conference was a grand success. It has been participated by 500 Buddhist representatives from different parts of the world. YMBA has observed its Silver Jubilee Celebration on 29th july 1995 (2052 Shrawan 13) which was inaugurated by the then Prime Minister Mr. Man Mohan Adhikari.
